9.15 2 Boot: Cheddar Gorge and Beacon Batch (Brunel Plus)
Event Date: Sun 24 March 2019
Event Time: 09:15
This walk is in the past.
This is an undulating walk over high ground of the Mendips. We start at the Blackmoor Reserve and follow the path to Cheddar Gorge. After passing the pinnacles and walking down steps into Cheddar we head in a northerly direction to Rowberrow Warren, Dolebury Warren and Beacon Batch, then return to the car park.
The ground is a bit rough and muddy in places.
Start at 10.00 am at Blackmoor Reserve car park. (Grid Reference ST5055556, nearest post code BS40 7XR) The car park is about 500m east of the small village Charterhouse. If the car park is full further parking can be found on the road about 200m south west.
If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer.
As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.
Alternative meeting point: 10:00 at
Blackmoor Reserve car park
Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.
On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?
We provide a full recommended kit list here. Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.
Brunel Walking Group is for young(ish) people in the Bristol and Bath area who love the countryside and like to get outside on a weekend. All of our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others. Read more on our FAQs page
