8.40 2 Boot: Jack and Jill Went Up the Hill and Brunel came Rambling After (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sun 17 February 2019
Event Time: 08:40

On this walk we will discover the origins of two famous nursery rhymes. We will follow in the footsteps of Jack and Jill - hopefully without any falls or breakages - and pass the house where Little Jack Horner Sat in a Corner (allegedly). From Kilmersdon we'll head to Mells and then follow the river to Great Elm. The MacMillan Way takes us up to Buckland Dinham. Crossing the A362 with great care we'll go through the fields to Hemington as we loop back to the start and a drink in the Jolliffe Arms. The hills are gentle but at this time of the year can be muddy. The walk leader will meet you in Kilmersdon. Please self-organise lift shares on the day and phone when departing (at 08:45).

Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.

About Brunel Walking Group

Thanks for visiting us! Brunel Walking Group is for young(ish) people in the Bristol and Bath area who love the countryside and like to get outside on a weekend.

What is Brunel Walking Group?

Brunel is a thriving group with over 400 members and is part of The Ramblers charity. All of our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others.  Read more on our FAQs page

How do I join the walk?

There is no need to sign up to join a walk, just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk.  You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.  It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts, but drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers towards their costs.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
