19:00 Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man (Joint Social Event)

Event Date: Thu 3 September 2026
Event Time: 19:00

This walk is in the past.

Join Brunel for some modern ballet at the Bristol Hippodrome, for Matthew Bourne's The Car Man.
The familiar 19th Century Spanish cigarette factory becomes a greasy 1950’s garage-diner in the American Mid-West where the dreams and passions of a small-town are shattered by the arrival of a handsome and enigmatic stranger. Fuelled by heat and desire, the inhabitants are driven into an unstoppable spiral of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge. Matthew Bourne’s vivid storytelling combines with one of the most passionately dramatic scores ever written, with music by Terry Davies featuring Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite (after Bizet’s Carmen), to create a dance thriller like no other.
!!!BUY TICKETS ASAP!!! The Hippodrome currently has 25% off this performance. Bench seats in the back two rows of the upper circle are £11.99!! This offer is only valid until 2nd August (but the cheaper seats sell out fast). The organiser has Upper Circle Seat J19. If you would rather go a bit more 'up-market' and get a better seat, we can meet at 19:00 and again at the interval.
Meet directly outside the Bristol Hippodrome (St Augustine's Parade, BS1 4UZ) at 19:00. The performance starts at 19:30. They may refuse entry to late-comers.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
