11:45 2 Boot Churchill, Winscombe and Shipham Loop (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sat 24 February 2024
Event Time: 11:45

This walk is in the past.

9.5 (1120ft ascent) mile loop starting from outside Churchill School at 12.20 then heading up by the Ski Centre and along the woods to pick up the Strawberry line for some easy miles. We then head cross country to pick up the West Mendip Way towards Shipham and then back to Churchill.

I will meet you at Churchill but if someone can arrange lifts from St Mary Redcliffe that would be great.

Please also reach out for lifts via Facebook at some drivers will not want to go to St Marys as it's inside the Clean Air Zone.

Pub option a few minutes drive from the end of the walk.

This will be a moderate pace walk to finish before sunset. Due to the later walk start time (allows you party animals in the club to recovery from Friday night!) I'm not really planning on stopping for a longer lunch break, so ideally eat beforehand.

Route is a mixture of easy cycle paths, muddy and rocky footpaths so wear suitable footwear.

Pub to finish.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
