11.00 1 Boot: Western Bracer (Brunel Plus)

Event Date: Sun 24 June 2018
Event Time: 11.00

9 miles

This walk takes us through serene wooded areas filled with tall trees and meadow flowers, quiet lanes and fields and a feeling of being “on top of the world” in this area of outstanding natural beauty which is steeped in history.

A stunning walk of variety and contrast across the windswept and bracing Mendip Moors with truly stunning panoramic views of the Somerset Levels, Brean Down, Steep Holm, Crooks Peak, Sand Bay, Wales and Devon.  It is a beautiful walk with no steep hills to climb. (Please note some paths are very overgrown with stinging nettles so long trousers advised).  Please read the notes below about parking.

Bring a packed lunch. After the walk we’ll go to a tea shop.

Walk Leader: Rosie U ( (Phone number removed) )

Meet at 11:00 at Christon Village
Please contact the walk leader if you will be meeting them there.
Map here.

There’s safe parking on a wide part of the road by the sign for CHRISTON. If you are driving towards the motorway bridge with Christon village church on your left, you pass a pink cottage (The Beeches). Just past the cottage the road opens up and is very wide.  You can park slightly off the road. This parking is just before the bridge. This is the only suitable place to park for this walk as Christon is a tiny village with no public car park.

The Bristol meet point has been cancelled.

This walk is in the past.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
