10.30am, 1 Boot: Southern Bath’s Industrial Heritage (Brunel Plus)

Event Date: Sun 8 April 2018
Event Time: 10.30am

9 miles approx.

We walk up Perrymead and into countryside to join the Sustrans cycle track for the disused railway tunnel going under Combe Down.  We then head though potentially muddy fields to the village of Southstoke.  From there it’s by way of another narrow valley to Combe Hay where we turn East to follow the Cam Brook valley and the disused coal canal to the village of Midford.  We re-join the railway line to get to Monkton Combe from where we take a very steep but solid path up to Combe Down and back down to the cars.  There may be an opportunity to have a drink in a pub on the way round.

Bring packed lunch.

Meet point: 10.30am at Bottom of Perrymead, off Ralph Allen’s Drive, Bath

About Brunel Walking Group

Thanks for visiting us! Brunel Walking Group is for young(ish) people in the Bristol and Bath area who love the countryside and like to get outside on a weekend.

What is Brunel Walking Group?

Brunel is a thriving group with over 400 members and is part of The Ramblers charity. All of our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others.  Read more on our FAQs page

How do I join the walk?

There is no need to sign up to join a walk, just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk.  You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.  It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts, but drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers towards their costs.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
