09:30 1 Boot: Return of the Butty (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sun 19 March 2017
Event Time: 09:30

6 miles

Due to popular demand, a digitally re-mastered version of this previously award-winning, record-breaking classic walk will make a reappearance on the programme…..

This is an easy city-based walk which, in all honesty, is more about food than walking. In prior years, it has won awards and broken Brunel records, probably only for that reason.

We start at Brunel’s Buttery on the harbourside, then walk along the harbour, up and over the Suspension Bridge to the view point on the Downs and then back down to the harbour, finishing near the Centre. There is only one section through Leigh Woods that is not on pavements so sturdy trainers are OK.

If you wish to start your walk with a bacon sarnie, please meet at the Buttery at 9:30am. For those who have already had their cornflakes, please meet us there at 10:15am when the walk will start. PLEASE DO NOT turn up at 10am and expect to be able to get food and still join us for the walk. There is always a queue.

We will have a snack stop during the walk but not a full lunch break. Anyone who is still hungry at the end of the walk, there are numerous options for Sunday lunch on or around the harbourside.

The Buttery are willing to prepare food in advance for us if you pre-order (this will avoid queuing). Options are any combination of: bacon, sausage, egg, tomato, mushrooms, brown bread, white bread. (There’s a veggie option too.) If you wish to do this, text me before Saturday 10pm or reply to my comment on the Facebook page that will appear soon.

Pub to finish.

Walk Leader: Kirstie G ( (Phone number removed) )

Meet: 09:30 (for bacon sarnies) at Brunel’s Buttery on the harbourside between the M Shed & SS Great Britain, BS1 6UD, 10:15am for walking only.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
