09:15 1 Boot Circuit of Clifton & Leigh woods (20s & 30s Walk)

Event Date: Sat 20 July 2024
Event Time: 09:15

This walk is in the past.

Great easy walk around Clifton and Leigh woods for newcomers and regular members alike.

There will be a slight incline in places, so please do where appropriate footwear.

We will meet at College Green and aim to leave by 09:30, but if you get lost do send me a text and I'll try my best to give you directions. Next we'll head up Park Street and turn left onto Great George Street heading toward Brandon Hill Park and enjoy the views there. After walking through the park, we will be heading to Jacobs Wells Road and walking up White Hart Steps toward Birdcage walk to the remains of St. Andrew's Church which was destroyed during WW2. After we take in the sights, we will head towards Clifton village and aim to get to Clifton Observatory by midday or just after to have a lunch break on the green area outside taking in views of the bridge. So do please bring a pack lunch/snacks for the walk, as the pub social will be at the end of the walk.

Furthermore, after crossing the suspension bridge and walking though Leigh Woods, we will walk along the Asphalted River Avon trail and head towards River Island and SS Great Britain.

Some of the sights you will be able to see are...
- Brandon Hill Park
- Remains of St. Andrew's church (A.K Birdcage walk)
- Clifton village
- Clifton Observatory/Suspension Bridge
- Leigh Woods
- Underfall Yard

There will be loads of pubs and cafés on the route, especially if you need the toilet.

There is the Cottage Inn where we can have drinks after the walk and enjoy the view of the Harbourside. But people are free to split from the group and head to other pubs such as the Ostrich that is located just past the M Shed.

Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
