08:45 1 Boot Uphill, Walborough Nature Reserve and Brean Down with Fort (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sat 21 March 2026
Event Time: 08:45

This walk is in the past.

An enjoyable and scenic walk around Uphill, Walborough Nature Reserve and Brean Down! This is a linear walk and we will be taking the bus back.

Meet at 09.45 at The Ship Inn. If you have a car please park on the street. We will start by walking up walking up Uphill Hill. The path is quite steep but very short. We will see the historic St Nicholas' Church and then go to Uphill Tower which may or may not be open to visitors. There will be plenty of lovely views of Weston-super-Mare and Somerset Levels!

We will then walk along the National Cycle Path towards Brean Beach going through Walborough Nature Reserve and Diamond Farm Holiday Park. There will be plenty of bird hides and birdwatching opportunities if you're a bird enthusiast! The path will be mostly flat.

Once we reach Brean Beach, we will walk along the beach and then go up onto Brean Down. The path will be quite steep. We will then reach the Fort which is awesome to explore with great views!

We will then walk back down the beach towards Cafe 33 at Diamond Farm to finish. We don't know how long we will stay at the cafe though because this depends on when the next bus will be and there is over an hour gap between buses. There is also the option of walking back to the starting point along the same route but we will decide on the day. We will take bus no.20 back to the Ship Inn which costs £2.60 per person if I'm correct.

Please wear good boots and suitable clothing because some sections will be steep and muddy. Please also bring waterproofs in case of rain.

If you are traveling from the Water Tower please be there at 8.45. I will not be there. Please message me if you are offering lifts from there.

Bring packed lunch. Cafe to finish.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
