Cotswold Way – Stage 3 Walk (Cleeve Hill to Birdlip)

15.5-mile linear walk along Stage 3 of the Cotswold Way, from Cleeve Hill to Birdlip, with approximately 2,159 ft/658m of ascent. The route offers excellent views throughout the day.

This is a 3-boot pace walk and includes some significant climbs, so please come well prepared. Bring plenty of food and water, and ensure you have suitable clothing & footwear for the expected weather conditions.

If needed, don’t forget sun protection such as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

This walk requires booking (message me directly) a few days in advance to allow time to organise a car shuffle between the start and finish points. Final group size will depend on the number of drivers.

Passengers are very welcome; however, spaces cannot be guaranteed if there is an imbalance between drivers and non-drivers. I’ll provide plenty of notice if this becomes an issue.

The walk finishes at a pub, where some participants may need to wait while drivers return to collect vehicles and bring others back to Bristol.

Meeting directly near the start point at Cleeve Hill may also be possible—please indicate this when booking so it can be factored into the arrangements.

Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
