This was last updated 31 March

This is advice for walkers. If you are leading a walk please also read our COVID-19 update for walk leaders.

Our walking guidance has now been relaxed with the changing restrictions in the UK.

  • Unless stated on the walk page, you no longer need to book onto walks and names will no longer be taken at the start of a walk for track and trace purposes.
  • Social distancing is no longer required
  • Car sharing and a central meeting point for car shares is allowed now.
  • If sharing lifts you may wish to consider bringing a face mask as a courtesy to the driver.
  • There are no limits on maximum number of walkers however some walk leaders may wish to set a limit themselves.

Please keep checking https://brunelwalking.org.uk/ for new walks. All our walks are run by our members who are all volunteers so please be patient and check again soon if there aren’t any walks with spaces when you check.

COVID-19 Walk Leading update

This was last updated 31 March

This is the guide for walk leaders. Please also read latest COVID-19 advice for walkers.

Conditions for group walking

Our walking guidance has now been relaxed with the changing restrictions in the UK.

  • Booking is no longer required on walks, however you do have the option to require booking if you so wish
  • There is now no maximum number of walkers, walk leaders should only accept the amount of people on their walk that they feel happy and safe leading.
  • You are no longer required to take an attendee register
  • Car sharing and a central meet point can also be organised if you feel comfortable doing so.
  • The risk assessment form has been updated to reflect changes in restrictions.

Walk booking process

Walk leaders now have the option to run a walk without a booking system and these walks can show the exact start location.

However if you still want to run a booking system you can follow these guidelines:

  • Only enter a a rough start location
  • Walkers who wish to attend text the walk leader to book a space
  • Once the spaces have been filled, we recommend having 2-3 waiting list spaces. (Remember: you can choose your limit.)
  • Once the waiting list is also full, contact the Committee via email and we will remove your contact number from the website
  • After 6pm the night before the walk, text the walkers the exact start location

COVID-19 Walking guidance has changed

Our walking guidance has changed.

We are now giving walk leaders to option to run a walk without a booking system and these walks will appear on the website with details on the start location. We do still need to collect details to aid contact tracing should someone on the walk test positive, so we would recommend taking a register at the start of the walk.

Car sharing and a central meet point can also be organised if you feel comfortable doing so.

The option will remain to still run a walk with a booking system for those who still wish to limit numbers. The rules for this are the same as before.

With this change I hope we take another step on the path to normality, and we hope to see you all on walks soon!
