10:00 1 Boot: Castle Combe and Broadmead Brook (Brunel Plus)
Event Date: Sun 8 September 2019
Event Time: 10:00
This walk is in the past.
New Members Walk; potential and existing members all welcome, just turn up. A mainly flat walk passing through the wonderful wooded countryside around picturesque Castle Combe, which featured in the films "War Horse" and "Dr Doolittle". From the car park we walk down to the village to follow Broadmead Brook west through the golf course, woodland and pasture almost to West Kington. We then take bridle-paths and lanes south to North Wraxall, before taking the Old Coach Road, now a quiet lane, to Ford. We then walk through the woods and meadows of the valley of the By Brook to return to Castle Combe and tea. Suitable for most potential new members, a few short climbs, average fitness required. Cattle and sheep, so not suitable for dogs.
If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer.
As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.
Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.
On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?
We provide a full recommended kit list here. Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.
Brunel Walking Group is for young(ish) people in the Bristol and Bath area who love the countryside and like to get outside on a weekend. All of our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others. Read more on our FAQs page
