08:00 3 Boot The Beacons Way Part 2 – Llanthony Priory to Crickhowell (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sat 21 June 2025
Event Time: 08:00

This walk is in the past.

Back in 2022/2023, I led some walks on the Beacons Way but never got around to finishing the full trail. This year I've devised a plan for completing the walks, finishing the route during our christmas weekend away trip, so I thought I'd better run the first 5 sections again!

This is part 2 of 8 of the iconic Beacons Way, which crosses some of the most stunning landscapes in Wales. We'll start at Llanthony Priory, crossing three of the four main ridges of the Black Mountains on our way westwards to the lovely village of Crickhowell via the hamlet of Partrishow. On the way, we'll visit Garn Wen cairn and the "Stone of Vengeance", said to mark the spot of the assassination of Richard de Clare in 1135.

This will be a fairly long day, so pack plenty of water, food and snacks, your waterproofs and suitable clothing (including sun cream/hats/lighter clothing if it's hot) as it can get pretty exposed up on the ridges if the weather turns! However, it's well worth the effort for the stunning views, history and nature. Pub in Crickhowell to finish.

IMPORTANTLY - THIS WALK REQUIRES BOOKING! Please message me and I'll add you to the list for the walk! Spaces will be limited to 30 people, and car shares will be available as this (naturally) is a linear walk. Meeting point details will be sent out the day before at the very latest, and please let me know if you have any questions!

Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
