This walk is in the past.
This is the big one! It's part 4 of 8 of the epic Beacons Way, and this section is a 14-mile romp with 1020m of ascent, covering some of the most stunning and dramatic parts of the Brecon Beacons National Park, including the highest mountain in South Wales, Pen y Fan. Please note the early meeting time, which will have to be STRICT - this is to ensure we can get enough space in the car park near Pen y Fan, as it can get very, very busy very early in the morning if the weather is due to be good!
We'll be heading westwards from the village of Llangynidr around the base of Tor y Foel, thorough forests surrounding the beautiful Talybont reservoir, before steeply climbing up to Craig y Fan Ddu. From there we'll follow the ridge along to Fan y Big, skirting around Cribyn before climbing Pen Y Fan and across to Corn Du, finally dropping down to the car park at the Storey Arms centre!
It will be a rather long day but really rewarding, although due to the exposed area the walk will be moved if the weather looks horrific! Waterproofs, suitable clothing for the weather, plenty of food/snacks and plenty of water will be needed, as unfortunately the cafe at Pont ar Daf car park may not be open by the time we finish the walk!
Bring packed lunch.
