Fourteen Locks Canal Centre is a popular family attraction that sits on top of the Cefn flight, an engineering wonder of the industrial revolution that is located in the picturesque area of Newport. As a result of the support of the Heritage Lottery Funding, two pairs of locks have been restored.
A family-friendly location managed by the Monmouthshire, Brecon and Abergavenny Canals Trust (MBACT), with history talks, activity trails, events and education days running throughout the year. The canal towpath is part of the national cycle route 47 and the beautiful Sirhowy valley walk.

Meet at Aztec West (BS32 4TD) for 08:30 and we will car share to the 14 Locks Canal Centre for the start of the walk. Walk will start about 09:30 and we should finish around 14:30, allowing time for coffee before returning to Bristol.
Directions to the meet point: If coming from the M5 – Leave the M5 at J16 (Bristol/Glos) and turn towards Bristol (south) on the A38. At the next roundabout exit ‘right’ for Aztec West. You will soon meet another roundabout, go ‘straight’ over this roundabout towards a large office block. As you approach the base of this building the road goes left & right in front of you, turn left, then follow the road round the building, ie right, you will then see parking bays with blue markings round them, park in any of these bays. If you’re coming north out of Bristol, on the A38, take the first exit, left, off the Aztec West roundabout. Note that the time quoted (8.30am) is the time we leave the car park.
