Further info:
If you would like further information etc before-hand read on -

Venue & getting there (is easy):

(Don’t be confused by the different name for this length of ‘Gloucester road’, I would just say the Inn is on ‘Gloucester Road’.)

2 Filton Road,
Horfield,
Bristol,

It is diagonally opposite Horfield Leisure Centre, which has big bus stops next to it on Gloucester Road for both directions.

Why:
Normal pub social catch-up.
Time for us to:
• Suggest, hear, discuss, develop, etc ideas for walks and events.
-Including sharing knowledge and getting help with walks and events and their planning.
• Easily get placeholders on our club calendar for walks and events you would like to lead. (Or for walks and events that you would like to see others lead.)
• Build-up and work-out a good programme of future walks and events for us to have on our club calendars.

How:
Pub social: As normal.

Walks and events ideas and planning: (Participation in this element is optional.)
• One good source of ideas for walks is our club web site’s past walks page. (Repeating walks is fine.)
https://brunelwalking.org.uk/past-walks/
(There is a link to this page at the end of the first paragraph on our ‘Walk leading’ page.)
• Have ideas of walks and events, and dates when you might like to do them.
• Come to this event. (‘Bring your diary / calendar.’)
• Or, if you would have come but can not and have ideas and/or suggestions you would like including or would like to suggest a placeholder, then you can let me know, as below, for me to try to include them.
• I will bring a large paper copy of our calendar for the upcoming months to this session, along with some pencils and pens. -Maybe also bring your own pencils and pens.
• I aim for us to put place holders on the paper copy of our calendar at this session. These will then be transferred to our on-line club calendars. (The complete entries for walks and events for our calendars are to be submitted through our website in the normal way by the walk/event leader after this session, to replace their place-holders, in good time before the walk/event, e.g. ideally by at least 4 weeks before the walk/event.)
• I and the club have paper copies of many of the OS maps covering Bristol, the surrounding area and further away. Let me know before if you would like me to bring specific maps to this session and I will bring them if I have them.
• (I plan for these ideas and planning sessions to be probably roughly ¼ yearly.)
• Any questions etc…contact me.
You can contact me by sending a text to my (old) mobile number (below). I have a different new number I mostly use, but I don’t really want to include it here on-line. So, I will be likely to reply to you / call you back from my new (different) number.
It will be best if you can contact me about anything for this at least a few days before the event.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
