This walk is in the past.
This walk takes us along a valley following the river from Keynsham up to the cycle path where, if we are lucky, we may see a steam train and a look down over the River Avon. We will partly follow the Cotswold Way diverting uphill via North Stoke for views towards Bristol and then to Prospect Stile for a view over Bath. Onwards to 'Hanging Hill' and then the Landsdown civil war monument. After heading a little more north we will turn back following the Monarch's Way along the 'Golden Valley' back via Bitton to Keynsham where a river-side pub awaits. Hoping for some spring sunshine, flowers and a leaping lamb or two.
Obviously bring the right kit. Sometimes the fields by the river flood after heavy rain so ground can get water-logged and muddy there, in which case I'd recommend waterproof boots. The hills aren't massive but quite steep in places. It's a 2-boot but not too difficult, local and easily accessible by public transport. Newcomers welcome - please contact the walk leader if you are new so that we can look out for you.
Getting there:
There are buses from Bristol Bridge to Keynsham that take about 20 minutes. The 522 Keynsham and Radstock bus stops at Keynsham church and is about a 5 minute walk to the railway station.
There are trains from Bristol Temple Mead that run regularly to Keynsham and take about 7 minutes. Return tickets are £5.20. You could get the 09:45, arriving at 09:51 and if that got cancelled, there is the 1003, arriving at 10:10am (but aiming to meet at 10am).
Getting back:
There seem to be a number of buses available to Bristol Temple Meads when we might be finishing - numbers 522 and 349 as well as regular trains.
It would be good to use public transport if possible, but if driving, there is a free car park a little way along the road away from the railway station on the left-hand side as you drive away from the town towards Bitton. Please try and arrange to car share if you are thinking of driving.
Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.
