09:50 2 Boot Bradford-on-Avon to Bath Canal walk (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sun 16 November 2025
Event Time: 09:50

This walk is in the past.

This scenic walk follows the pretty Kennet and Avon canal from Bradford-on-Avon to Bath with lovely views of the river and out across Wiltshire. The walk is by the canal for about two-thirds of the route and follows a flat path until we reach a steep climb uphill to the skyline for fantastic views over Bath. We will walk along the top as far as Sham Castle before making our way down to the city where there are plenty of cafes for a post-walk cup of tea and piece of cake. From there you can get the train back to Bristol or Bradford-on-Avon.

Please wear suitable footwear (you'll need some grip for the hilly section) and dress according to the weather (obviously). The distance and hilly section make this a 2-boot walk but it is a nice one for first-timers who want to try out the group.

This is a great walk to access by public transport. We will meet at Bradford on Avon railway station which is on the train line from Bristol and Bath.
At the time of writing there are two trains which get from Temple Meads to Bradford-on-Avon before 09:50 am.
09:08 am arriving at 09:40am
09:22 arriving at 09:47am

These cost £14 for a return ticket - we will be returning from Bath but it is cheaper to get a return ticket to Bradford on Avon than two singles.

There are buses from Bath too which will be cheaper.

If driving, there is a large carpark which costs 80p per day. We encourage car sharing if you choose this option.

Bring packed lunch. Cafe to finish.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
