08:30 3 Boot The Beacons Way Part 1 – Abergavenny to Llanthony Priory (20s & 30s Walk)

Event Date: Sun 16 October 2022
Event Time: 08:30

This walk is in the past.

Because I've gotten itchy feet already after leading the Cotswold Way, I thought a new challenge might be in order! This is the first of 8 walks covering the relatively new 95 mile path over the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Beacons Way. This first section begins at Abergavenny railway station, and is a fairly challenging 13.5 mile/22km walk taking in two ascents, The Skirrid and Hatterall Hill. We'll be covering part of the famed Offa's Dyke path during this walk, before finishing up at the ruins of Llanthony Priory, a stunning 12th century abbey. We'll stop off at The Half Moon Inn in Llanthony for post-walk refreshments before we head home

This will be a more challenging walk than the Cotswold Way, as sections are generally longer, although we'll take plenty of breaks to take in the stunning views! Not every section will be a three boot walk, but this initial ramble will be a great introduction to walking the Beacons Way. Waterproofs, weather-appropriate clothing (e.g. layers) and snacks will be essential, and of course plenty of water!

Spaces will be limited to 30 people, and car shares will be available as this (naturally) is a linear walk. Meeting point details will be sent out the day before at the very latest, and please let me know if you have any questions!

This walk requires booking

Text the walk leader to request a space on the walk with your name. After 6pm the night before your walk, the leader will message you the full start point details.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
