08:20 3 Boot Pen y Fan Circular including Fan y Big, Cribyn and Corn Du (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sat 25 July 2026
Event Time: 08:20

This walk is in the past.

An alternate horseshoe loop in the Brecon Beacons, including Fan y Big, Cribyn, Pen y Fan and Corn Du. Expect steep climbs and stunning views.

It's a challenging 3 boot hike (12.5 miles/20.1km & 3320ft/1012m elevation), so please ensure you have both the necessary equipment as well as the fitness needed to complete the walk. You will need decent hiking footwear, suncream, plenty of water (minimum 2+ litres) and food, and extra layers of clothing. Please also bring waterproofs- the weather forecast is currently for possible showers in the afternoon.

There are some very steep sections (the worst being straight from the car park), so please bring walking poles if you find these helpful. Other hazards to be aware of include steep drops, if leaving the path, and tick bites.

Meeting point is the water tower on the downs at 08.20, aiming to leave shortly after. I estimate the walk will take around 7 hours. The early start is to ensure we get car park space.

Please let me know early in the day if you have any significant medical conditions you think I should be aware of.

Hope to see you there!

Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
