08:00 3 Boot The Beacons Way Part 4 – Llangynidr to Storey Arms (20s & 30s Walk)
Event Date: Sat 29 April 2023
Event Time: 08:00
This walk is in the past.
This is the big one! It's the 4th part of the epic Beacons Way, and this part is a 14-mile romp with 1020m of ascent, covering some of the most stunning and dramatic parts of the Brecon Beacons National Park, including the highest mountain in South Wales, Pen y Fan.
We'll be heading westwards from the village of Llangynidr around the base of Tor y Foel, thorough forests surrounding the beautiful Talybont reservoir, before steeply climbing up to Craig y Fan Ddu. From there we'll follow the ridge along to Fan y Big, skirting around Cribyn before climbing Pen Y Fan and across to Corn Du, finally dropping down to the car park at the Storey Arms centre!
It will be a long day but really rewarding, although due to the exposed area the walk will be moved if the weather looks horrific! Waterproofs, plenty of snacks and plenty of water will be needed.
If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer.
As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.
Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.
On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?
We provide a full recommended kit list here. Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.
Brunel Walking Group is for young(ish) people in the Bristol and Bath area who love the countryside and like to get outside on a weekend. All of our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others. Read more on our FAQs page
