9.15 2 Boot: Kewstoke and Sandpoint (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sun 27 January 2019
Event Time: 09:15

This walk is in the past.

Starting by Birnbeck Pier in Weston Super Mare we head up into Kewstoke Woods on a bridleway passing the remains of the Iron Age Fort.

We then traverse the woods on well used footpaths and then head down past the bike jump park where if we are lucky with might get to see the Lesser or Greater (all depends on the skills) Spotted Teenager giving us an aerial display.

We then head down to the seafront at Sand Bay and follow the main promenade and footpath to Sand Point.

We then follow the paths that lead above the cliffs at Sand Point taking in the great views across to Wales. Then out towards the derelict military buildings at St Thomas Head, once allegedly used for testing the bouncing bomb. We drop down to Woodspring Priory and inland to Kewstoke via footpaths and farm tracks.

After a steep climb on a faint footpath we pass the golf course and head back to the start via different woodland footpaths.

Please bring a packed lunch, although we might be able to purchase an ice cream en-route at Sand Bay.

I will be meeting people at the start point in Weston so please arrange lifts if you're meeting at St Mary Redcliffe.

Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
