8.00 3 Boot: Clydach Gorge (Brunel Plus Joint Walk with Bristol Ramblers)
Event Date: Sun 3 March 2019
Event Time: 8.00
This walk is in the past.
The Clydach Gorge is a remarkably compact area of isolated, little communities improbably situated on a steep hillside. Below it, a beautiful wooded valley and stream, above it a desolate landscape of former tips and ruined mine-workings. And sandwiched in between, a complex of vertical quarry-faces, old railway tunnels, functional dwellings and some recent cycle-ways - it's a fascinating shambles of a place. On our visit we shall have a look at a great deal of the area, the good, the bad and the ugly! In doing so, you can expect a busy day with lots of ups and downs, (about 3,200 ft. of ascent) and some remarkable views (not all pleasant!). What’s more, the walk also includes the world heritage site of Clydach Iron Works. An altogether intriguing day’s outing, by turns rural, rugged and industrial. Bring a head torch.

Date: Sun 03 Mar 2019 Meet:
8.00 at
Priory Road, Clifton, BS8 1TZ for lift shares.
If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer.
As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.
Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.
On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.
