NYE Walk: Crook Peak or Troopers Hill

This walk follows the recent Brunel tradition of seeing in the New Year on top of a hill rather than in the pub or watching TV. There are two walk options for 2023/4. I’ll be choosing which one based on the weather forecast.

Option One

There and back walk to Crook Peak. On the edge of the Mendip Hills this offering panoramic view across Weston-Super-Mare, Bristol Channel and South East Wales coastline.

Meet: King’s Wood Car Park (This is provisional at this stage, pending outcome of prewalk).
Note: There won’t be a central car share meeting point for this walk. I encourage you to informally car share with people you know locally to reduce pressure on the car park.

Departure Time: TBC

Option Two

A circular walk with midnight being seen in on Troopers Hill. Walk will start from outside the Co-Op in St. Annes Park to be at Troopers Hill Tower just before midnight. Views over South Bristol are easily visible from this vantage point.

Meet: Outside Co-Op, St. Annes Park

Departure Time: TBC

The walk leader has no access to post updates on the club Facebook page about which walk will be offered. Please text me if you’d like to be added to a WhatsApp group where I will provide full information by midday on Sunday 31st December. Being added to the WhatsApp group will mean that your mobile number is visible to all other members of the group.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
