This walk is in the past.
I can't believe it's been a year since I last led this walk! But there have been a few in the area in the meantime...
We'll walk the Wye Valley up from Chepstow Castle as far as Tintern Abbey, taking a look at the ruins of Piercefield House and climbing to the Eagle's Nest (uneven ground and wonky steps on the ascent!) on the way. There should be some lovely bits of woodland full of bluebells and wild garlic at the moment.
We'll return to Chepstow along the other side of the valley, admiring the views of Tintern from the Devil's Pulpit.
There are some steep climbs up and down the sides of the valley (over 900m of ascent and descent), you'll need to be okay with heights, and there may be cows in one of two of the fields. Styles, maybe some mud mud & uneven ground are to be expected, so walking boots are recommended.
There are a few convenient pubs near the castle/river in Chepstow for the end of the walk.
Parking costs £1.30 for the day on a Sunday. Should the Castle Dell car park be full, the Drill Hall car park is nearby, or the Welsh Street car park is just up the hill on the walk route.
Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.
