09:00 3 Boot Brecons Mountain Railway leading to Brecons Mountain Walk (Joint Walk)

This walk is in the past.

We will start from Pant station and catch the 11am departure on the Brecons Mountain Railway for a 25min journey up the valley via Pontsticill and Pentwyn reservoirs to the summit of the line at Torpantau station, the train will be hauled by a vintage steam locomotive. We will then start the walk and head up the valley and up over Fan y Big and then follow ridge lines with great views before descending to cross a valley and then up over Pant y Creigiau and along parts of the Cambrian Way and back to Pant station. There is 720m of climbing. Bring plenty of food and drink and suitable clothing. Weather at the time of writing is forecast to be mainly dry, but please check the forecast. I've measured the walk using OS maps online. VERY IMPORTANT, please book your train tickets (single ticket from Pant to Torpantau, 11am Sunday, visit www.bmr.wales (tickets £13). As indicated below we are meeting at Avonmeads Showcase cinema car park to sort our car share etc.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.
