This walk is in the past.
The walk starts from Glyntawe in the west of the Brecons and heads up via an old quarry and along an old tramway from mining, up to the first summit at Fan Gyhirych (725m). From there is a steep grassy descent to the valley and up over Waun Leuci (562m) and then up past the lakes of Lyn Fan Fawr and Lyn Fan Fach and up onto the ridgeline for the final 1/3 of the walk that then takes in Black Mountain (802m). From here we head south along the ridgeline in the evening light with great views and we finish at the Tafarn y Garreg pub for drinks / snacks next to where we parked. I've posted the walk via OS maps online, search in the Gyntawe area for 'Big Brecons walk from Glytawe', its 30km / 18.6miles and includes 1500m of ascent. We'll have several breaks along the way. Please bring plenty of drink & food, also bring suncream, sunhat, suitable clothing for the conditions, walking boots & a sit mat for when we stop (unless you are too cool to own a sit mat!). Although we should be down by 7:30pm (sunset 9:13pm), please bring a headtorch.
Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.
