08:30 3 Boot Ledbury to Malvern (1 way using train), via Malvern Hills Ridgeline (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sat 12 October 2024
Event Time: 08:30

This walk is in the past.

We will get the 10:42 train from Malvern Link to Ledbury for 11am where we will start the walk. We head out east via Eastnor Deer Park and then up onto the Malverns starting with the ascent of Swinyard Hill, then Hangman's Hill, Milennium Hill, British Camp (lunch) follwed by ice cream at the cafe & toilets, then 5 more hills (including more public toilets) on the way to Worcestershire Beacon, followed by Sugarloaf Hill, Table Hill and End Hill, then a descent back to Malvern Link via a pub for some hot/cold drinks. Please bring suitable clothing and good walking footwear, a mat to sit on when we have lunch, sunglasses (might be low sun, but it will mainly be behind us) and a small torch, though we should be finished before sunset. We will try to get a groupsave ticket for the train which is £6.40 before any discount (save 1/3) and the car park is £3.50/car. Please bring some cash to make paying for car share & share of parking & train ticket easier. The walk has 980m of ascent with the highest point being Worcestershire Beacon, the highest point in the Malverns. For any of you who walk to the meet point for car share at Avonmeads Showcase, we'll aim to ensure you are dropped off in more central Bristol on the way back as its a bit dark and isolated in the Avonmeads area in the evening.

Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
