08:30 3 Boot Brecon Beacons via Talybont reservoir and Pen y Bryn with sunset (13 miles) (Joint Walk)

Starting from the car park nr the west end of Talybont reservoir (Blaen y Glyn Uchaf), we initially head along the old railway route past the Talybont reservoir which is easy walking and gently downhill. We then cut north and ascend via the Talybont Forest and out onto the moorland area and up to the summit of Pen y Bryn (561m), we then head in a south west direction via the Beacons way and some good sections of ridgeline with great views in the sunset. Its 705m of total climbing and 20.9km / 13 miles (measured on OS Maps). Bring very warm clothes; with wind chill it will feel very cold on the high sections even though its forecast to be sunny, the highest point is 743m. Also bring good footwear, hats, gloves, sunglasses, torch and picnic lunch. Either meet for car share at the watertower in Clifton or meet there, see details below. We can hve a hot drink afterwards in one of the pubs in Talybont.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.
