Meeting at the Down's Water Tower at 08.30. This will be a 18.7 km/11.6 mile walk in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, with 869m ascent including 4 peaks. I estimate it should take 6-7 hours including breaks. It is a harder 2 boot with some steep ascents, so please ensure you have the fitness to complete it. The weather can also be unpredictable (currently forecast to be hot!) so please bring sun cream, enough food and particularly water (2+ litres), good hiking boots and waterproofs. Note, there are no bathrooms available after Abergavenny.
The walk ascends steeply from the car park through woodland to Deri Allt (367m), before walking along the hill tops at a more gentle incline, through some ancient oak woodland, with a further steep ascent to the top of Sugar Loaf (596m) for panoramic views. We'll then descend into a river valley (potentially wet under foot) where we will stop for lunch. The route curves back around, with sections on quiet roads, before ascending back up to Mynydd Llanwenarth (410m), along the hill tops to Rholben (338m) and descending back down to the carpark. Optional pub stop in Abergavenny before heading home.
Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.
