08:30 2 Boot St Briavels to Cleddon Falls (20s & 30s Walk)

Starting in the village of St Briavels in the Forest of Dean we journey to Hewelsfield, walking along the edge of Oak Hill Wood, meandering through Caswell Wood before arriving in glorious Tintern. We follow the River Wye before crossing over into Wales to join the Wye Valley Walk. We pass through Botany Bay and Whitestone in Bargain Wood where we will have truly spectacular views of the Wye Valley at several viewpoints. There is a climb towards Cleddon Falls, skirting around Llandogo and the lower reaches of the Wye Valley. We descend through Cuckoo Wood and cross back into England over Bigsweir Bridge, finishing with a walk through farmland and one final climb back to St Briavels.
Depending on prior weather, there are parts of this walk which are likely to be muddy. A few steep sections but mostly good tracks.
If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer.

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.
On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?
We provide a full recommended kit list here. Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.
