This walk is in the past.
Continuing westwards across the Bannau Brycheiniog, this is the 6th part of the epic Fford y Bannau/Beacons Way, and this part is a slightly shorter 10-mile section with 760m of ascent - a great day in the hills, shorter but with a bit more ascent than the last section!
We'll be heading further into the western beacons from Craig-y-Nos country park, taking in Llyn y Fan Fawr, the highest natural lake in South Wales, and on to Fan Brycheiniog, the highest point in the western Beacons. After a final climb to Bannau Sir Gaer, we drop down past Llyn y Fan Fach, which is steeped in mythology and featured in the Mabinogion, and in to the village of Llanddeusant.
It will be another fairly long day, but an interesting and rewarding one! Decent footwear, full waterproofs, plenty of food and snacks (more than you think!), and plenty of water will be needed. Please note we will be departing the meeting point at 08:00 sharp, as the car journey is longer the farther we get into the western beacons.
As this is a linear walk, car sharing and driver organisation will be sorted on the day!
Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.
