07:30 3 Boot The Beacons Way Part 5 – Storey Arms to Craig-y-Nos (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sat 2 August 2025
Event Time: 07:30

This walk is in the past.

This is the 5th part of the epic Beacons Way, and this part is a 14.5-mile romp with 610m of ascent - a bit gentler than the last section, but a great day in the hills nonetheless!

We'll be heading westwards into the wilder, quieter western beacons from the Storey Arms/Pont ar Daf car park at the foot of Pen y Fan, and taking in parts of the famous Sarn Helen roman road and Ogof Ffynnon Ddu National Nature Reserve, renowned for its famous cave system and rare limestone pavement habitat! We'll be finishing up the day at Craig-y-Nos country park.

It will be a long day (likely back late evening) but really rewarding! Decent footwear, waterproofs, plenty of food and snacks (more than you think!), and plenty of water will be needed. Please note we will be departing the meeting point at 07:30 sharp, as the car park at Storey Arms/Pont ar Daf can get very, very busy indeed very early.

As this is a linear walk, car sharing and driver organisation will be sorted on the day!

Bring packed lunch. Pub to finish.

How do I join the walk?

Unless stated on the walk page, there is no need to sign up to join a walk. You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.

On many walks you can just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk. It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts. Some walks you will need to make your way to walk start or you can post on our facebook group to ask if you can share a lift there.

If sharing lifts passengers are expected to contribute towards petrol costs. Please bring coins or be prepared to make a bank transfer. As a guide, 30p/mile shared by everyone in the car.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
