An Introduction to Walk Leading

Event Date: Sat 15 July 2017

Brunel Walking Group depends on its members to volunteer to lead walks. We always welcome more Walk Leaders. If you are not sure about leading a walk, or would like more ideas and support about walk leading, then this event is for you!

We will start with a drink in a cafe/pub and discuss managing a group and walk leading skills. We will then follow a route in the Mendip Hills, giving members an opportunity to have a go at leading in a supportive group. There will be plenty of time to ask questions.

You need to book onto this event by emailing enquiries@brunelwalking.org.uk – places are limited! Please include your Ramblers membership number in your email, and let us know if there is anything in particular that you would like help with.

About Brunel Walking Group

Thanks for visiting us! Brunel Walking Group is for young(ish) people in the Bristol and Bath area who love the countryside and like to get outside on a weekend.

What is Brunel Walking Group?

Brunel is a thriving group with more than 400 members. All of our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others.  Read more on our FAQs page

How do I join the walk?

There is no need to sign up to join a walk, just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk.  You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.  It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts, but drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers towards their costs.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
