9:30 am 2 Boot: Cheddar and the West Mendip Way (Joint)

Event Date: Sun 10 September 2017

12 miles

Our second ‘re-enacted’ walk was originally Brunel’s first ever walk. The walk will be starting in the village of Cheddar. We shall follow the West Mendip Way above Cheddar Gorge and out onto the wild Mendips. After our stop for lunch, we’ll follow the old Winscombe drove road and the Strawberry Line back through Axbridge, past Cheddar reservoir and back into Cheddar. A lovely chance to enjoy fantastic views across the countryside, walking along the beautiful route that Brunel did 18 years ago! Of course, a birthday celebratory walk must finish with a visit to the pub at the end.

Meeting Point – 9:30am, St Mary Redcliffe Car Park

About Brunel Walking Group

Thanks for visiting us! Brunel Walking Group is for young(ish) people in the Bristol and Bath area who love the countryside and like to get outside on a weekend.

What is Brunel Walking Group?

Brunel is a thriving group with more than 400 members. All of our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others.  Read more on our FAQs page

How do I join the walk?

There is no need to sign up to join a walk, just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk.  You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.  It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts, but drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers towards their costs.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
