9.00 2 Boot: The Cat’s Back (20s & 30s)

Event Date: Sun 17 December 2017
Event Time: 9.00

9 miles

This walk has been reclassified as a 2 boot due to ascent towards the end of the walk (a tough one boot). From the car park, we’ll immediately climb to the ridge of Black Hill; then following this via a trig point to a convergence with Offa’s Dyke. After a brief detour north to Hay Bluff, we’ll return along the Dyke – straddling the England/Wales border – before descending to cross the Olchon Valley and climbing briefly to the cars.

This walk is on the edge of the Black Mountains – please pack waterproof and windproof layers as the weather can quickly change once we reach the ridge. Headtorch hopefully not necessary.

Bring a packed lunch. Pub to finish.

Walk Leader: Olly P (07833 136042)

Meet: 9.00 at The Water Tower (Clifton)

Alternatively meet at 10:30 at Black Hill Car Park/Picnic Site
Please contact the walk leader if you will be meeting them there.

About Brunel Walking Group

Thanks for visiting us! Brunel Walking Group is for young(ish) people in the Bristol and Bath area who love the countryside and like to get outside on a weekend.

What is Brunel Walking Group?

Brunel is a thriving group with more than 400 members. All of our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others.  Read more on our FAQs page

How do I join the walk?

There is no need to sign up to join a walk, just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk.  You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.  It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts, but drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers towards their costs.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
