8.15 3 Boot: Black Mountain Twist (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sun 16 September 2018
Event Time: 8.15

13.5 miles

Starting at the southern tip of the Black Mountain ridge, the first half of the walk will traverse the full length of the ridge, taking in Fan Hir, Fan Brycheiniog, Fan Foel, Picws Du and Bannau Sir Gaer. We then drop down to Llyn y Fan Fach before a short winding climb back up onto the ridge. We then head off the beaten path through some possibly boggy sections before finding the track home through a collection of shake holes. This walk has 1300m of climbing but only a few short steep sections. Expect the off track section to be boggy so suitable footwear is a must.

Meet 8.15am at the Water Tower, Clifton.

Alternative meet point: 10am at the Gwyn Arms, please contact the walk leader if meeting here. https://goo.gl/maps/dkLZ8WX1Dt82

Bring packed lunch, pub to finish.

About Brunel Walking Group

Thanks for visiting us! Brunel Walking Group is for young(ish) people in the Bristol and Bath area who love the countryside and like to get outside on a weekend.

What is Brunel Walking Group?

Brunel is a thriving group with more than 400 members. All of our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others.  Read more on our FAQs page

How do I join the walk?

There is no need to sign up to join a walk, just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk.  You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.  It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts, but drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers towards their costs.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
