9am 2 Boot: Lacock and Bowood Estate (Joint Walk)

Event Date: Sun 9 July 2017
Event Time: 9am

10.5 miles

An easy 2 boot walk starting in the picturesque National Trust village of Lacock, featured in many film productions and also the birthplace of photographer Fox Talbot. The walk will take us across farmland past the Wilts and Berks canal and the Avon to Bowood estate. After going through the main entrance to the estate, there will be views of Bowood House passing down through the estate. The final stretch of the walk passes by Bowden park before the descent back into Lacock village.  The terrain includes roads, paths/tracks and fields.
If the weather is dry in the lead-up to the walk then sturdy walking shoes (as well as boots) are suitable.

Parking in National Trust car park – this is £4 per car or free to NT members. If anyone is an NT member please could they bring their membership car and car sticker to take advantage of free parking.

Tea shop in Lacock village at end.

Meet 9am at the Water Tower, Clifton.   Alternative meet point: 9.45am at Lacock National Trust carpark.  Please contact the walk leader if meeting here.

About Brunel Walking Group

Thanks for visiting us! Brunel Walking Group is for young(ish) people in the Bristol and Bath area who love the countryside and like to get outside on a weekend.

What is Brunel Walking Group?

Brunel is a thriving group with more than 400 members. All of our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others.  Read more on our FAQs page

How do I join the walk?

There is no need to sign up to join a walk, just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk.  You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.  It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts, but drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers towards their costs.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
