9:00 a.m. 2 Boot: Bath “Two Tunnels” Circuit (20s-30s)

Event Date: Sun 7 May 2017

13 miles

Please note, this is a joint walk with Oxon 20-30s Ramblers, to promote closer links with nearby groups; see link here. The walk leader is from the Oxon group.

An interesting and gently-graded circuit from rural to urban Bath and back again. Featuring lots of towpath and a former railway line, two former rail tunnels, a canal tunnel, a viaduct, an aqueduct, and some of the Georgian architecture in the city centre.

The long tunnels are lit, but please carry a torch, to aid visibility especially to cyclists who also use the path.

Car share meeting point: The Water Tower in Clifton at 9:00am (meeting point changed due to the Bristol 10k). It is preferred that everyone car shares on this walk due to the fact that it is a joint walk with another group and due to the very limited parking at the walk starting point. Contact Kirsty H (07754536517).

Bathampton Meeting Point: Bathampton, next to The George Inn (BA2 6TR) at 10:30 am. Parking only SOUTH of the canal.

Please park considerately SOUTH of the canal on High St or nearby residential streets, and allow a few extra minutes to find a parking spot and wander back to the start point. Please car share if possible (especially mindful this is a joint walk).

The parking north of the canal is time restricted and will not allow enough time to complete the walk.

Dogs welcome on leads.

Bring packed lunch? Yes
Post walk beverage: Pub (during walk)

Walk Leader: Andrew Perkins (see Oxon 20-30s website for contact details)

About Brunel Walking Group

Thanks for visiting us! Brunel Walking Group is for young(ish) people in the Bristol and Bath area who love the countryside and like to get outside on a weekend.

What is Brunel Walking Group?

Brunel is a thriving group with more than 400 members. All of our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others.  Read more on our FAQs page

How do I join the walk?

There is no need to sign up to join a walk, just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk.  You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.  It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts, but drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers towards their costs.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.

Walks are graded as either 1 boot, 2 boot or 3 boot.  Read more about choosing the right walk for your fitness level here,
