10:00 1 Boot: Failand, Tortworth and the Little Avon River (Brunel Plus)

A scenic walk taking the quiet Gambril Lane with views to Eastwood Park, then through the Tortworth Estate and Arboretum and along the pretty wooded valley of the Little Avon River. We will stop for tea and cake at Tortworth Church, where the Tortworth Chestnut can be seen, before the final hour or so passing the Grade II Heneage Court and lake. Field, bridle-way, woodland and lane walking, with a couple of climbs. For safety reasons, please park as far along the layby as possible. If arriving southbound, park in southbound layby opposite.

Bring a packed lunch.

Alternatively meet at 10:30 at A38 northbound layby immediately after the brown tourist “Hotel” sign, north of turning for Oldbury-on-Severn, and immediately before Eastwood Park turning (GR 678 920)

What is Brunel Walking Group?

How do I join the walk?

There is no need to sign up to join a walk, just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk.  You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.  It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts, but drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers towards their costs.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.
