A scenic walk skirting Michael Wood before following the pretty wooded valley of the Little Avon River. Having crossed Damery Bridge we then pass through Daniel’s Wood to reach Tortworth Arboretum. After a stop for tea and cake at Tortworth Church, where the Tortworth Chestnut can be seen, we pass through the hamlet of Avening Green to rejoin the Little Avon River to reach the finish. Field, bridle-way and lane walking, mainly flat. Suitable for most new members.

What is Brunel Walking Group?

How do I join the walk?

There is no need to sign up to join a walk, just turn up at the meeting point where we will share lifts to the start of the walk.  You’re very welcome to try out 1 or 2 walks before you join, but we do insist that after that you join the Brunel Walking Group.  It’s OK if you don’t drive – we normally have enough drivers who are able to give lifts, but drivers often appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers towards their costs.

How do I know what to bring? And am I fit enough?

We provide a full recommended kit list here.  Please do bring water, a rainproof jacket, walking trousers (or similar) and walking shoes/boots – avoid jeans and trainers.
