The Uffington White Horse is the most famous and the oldest (Bronze Age – c.3000 old) of the 9 white horses on the Wessex downs. Situated in Oxfordshire, it is not included in the Wiltshire White Horse Trail, so I have added this as a much shorter bonus walk. This figure of 8 loop will take us into the downs round Ashdown House, taking in various earth works, and the long barrow of Waylands Smithy. People have been walking here for thousands of years. It is said that St George killed the Dragon here.
