A new committee is elected each year at our AGM at the end of October. Please e-mail us if you’re interested in taking on one of the roles.

Chairperson: David

Responsible for overseeing the work of the Brunel committee and representing the Group during meetings and discussions with other local walking Groups. David would like to hear your thoughts about the Group and how we can improve the programme of walks we offer. As well as leading and taking part in walks with Brunel, David enjoys holidaying, reading, bird watching and mountaineering all while studying for his Masters.

20s & 30s Programme Secretary: Jo

Jo is responsible for our calendar of walks for the 20s & 30s group. She is keen to encourage both new walk leaders as well as our more established leaders to submit walks and develop a busy and varied programme. Without walks we have no club, by submitting walks to the programme here you can become an important part of what attracts so many people to join the group. Jo is currently on a lifetime mission to walk the National Trails of the UK. She can be easily spotted when out with the group by her faithful shadow and four-legged walking companion Escha (lifetime member of Brunel).

Vice Chair and Brunel Plus Rep: Kirstie

Kirstie is the main point of contact for any queries regarding Brunel Plus. Her main aim is to make Brunel Plus so attractive that it becomes the group which active 40 somethings want to join and she welcomes any potential new members in the Brunel Plus age range to join us for a walk or at a social event. She is also keen to encourage 20s & 30s members who are approaching 40 to come along to a Brunel Plus walk or pub night – you’ll soon realise we’re just the same as you, only a few years older! She graduated to Brunel Plus a couple of years ago and can confirm that life after 40 is just as much fun (just with a few more aches and pains…..) When not walking, Kirstie juggles various other hobbies including step dancing, playing the bass recorder. gardening and doing yoga.

Brunel Plus Programme Secretary: Steph

Steph’s role is to fill up the Brunel Plus programme with interesting and varied walks. The group is fortunate to have enthusiastic walk leaders who enjoy leading in a range of different locations. However, Steph is keen to encourage and support more people to lead walks, especially 1 and 3 boot walks. As well as walking Steph also enjoys travel, sailing, live music, films and Sunday roasts.

Brunel Plus Social Secretary: Tim

Tim is responsible for keeping the Brunel Plus social diary filled up with a varied set of events including the regular Brunel Plus monthly pub nights. He also enjoys laying on camping trips for the club as well as leading walks, and loves to try new outdoor activities of any sort. Indoors he likes to write fiction, and some (arguably lucky) Brunel members occasionally get to hear him play the guitar.

20s & 30s Social Secretary: Tina

Tina looks after the 20s & 30s social calendar, including the monthly pub nights. When not leading the entertainment she enjoys bird watching, cooking and natural history documentaries. She can sometimes also be spotted at power ballad and rock music events strumming her air guitar.

Group Secretary: Kirsty

Kirsty is responsible for organising the committee meetings and the AGM. Whilst supporting the Chairperson and the other committee members, Kirsty also deals with some of the general admin for the group. In her spare time, Kirsty Enjoys taking her dog Lessi out into the big wide world, camping, travelling, baking and needle felting. If you’re lucky, you may sample her baked goods on a Brunel walk!

Treasurer: Jon

Jon keeps the accounts up to date for the group. This involves simple budgeting, authorising payments, working with the Avon Area Ramblers treasurer and advising on funding for events the group wants to organise.

Marketing secretary: Josie

Josie is responsible for attracting new members to the group and communicating with existing members through a variety of mediums. The marketing secretary works with others on the committee to produce regular email newsletters for members, keep the website and Facebook pages up to date and looking good, and takes on ad hoc activities to raise the profile of the group. When not trying to coax people outdoors, Josie likes to fill her time with bad dancing, good books and mediocre gardening. You can easily identify her on walks – just look for the binoculars and the neon-striped hat.

Membership Secretary: Pam

Pam looks after our membership address list and acts as the interface to the Rambler’s Membership department. She will answer membership enquiries via email and welcomes new members to the group. As well as walking, Pam also likes baking cakes and running marathons.

Footpaths Representative: Dave

Dave’s role is to oversee the conditions of the local footpaths and public rights of way in the area. He also reports obstructions to the rights of way or poorly maintained footpaths to the relevant parties. Dave enjoys Geocaching, Frisbee Golf, teaching scouts how to navigate around Dartmoor for the Ten Tors, travel, helping to grow stuff on allotments, watching Shakespeare, going to gigs and attending Glastonbury every year. Favourite places to hike include Kyrgyzstan, Africa, Argentina and Nepal.

Webmaster: Graham

Graham is looking after our website and getting to grips with WordPress. His role includes updating the website with new content and improving the layout and structure of the site. Graham is a qualified Mountain Leader and particularly enjoys hiking in Scotland and Snowdonia.
