Our Famous Weekends Away!

Brunel weekends are a great opportunity to visit somewhere a bit further away and get in a full weekend (or longer) of walking.  They're also a great way of getting to know people in the group that much better, especially people who generally do different sorts of walks.

Summer weekends

At the moment we're still looking for people to volunteer to organise some weekends away over the summer months.  Contact us if you'd like to do so (and the guidelines, below, may help).

2008 Christmas Weekend Away

The biggest weekend away is always the extremely popular Christmas one, generally held in early December.

We have now confirmed plans for the Christmas weekend away.  It will be at Golant YHA from Thursday 11 through Sunday 14 December, so you may want to hold this in your diary.  Very close to Fowey (in Cornwall), it offers an array of coastal and riverside walks, as well as a town that's great at that time of year.  We'll be taking bookings later in the year (but not yet!) and will announce details at the time.

Guidelines

To help people organise a Brunel trip, we've generated some guidelines in which we aim to capture the key points and some of the lessons from previous trips.

Download the Guidelines.

You can now book your Brunel Christmas...

The Christmas weekend away will be at Golant YHA from Thursday 11 through Sunday 14 December.  Very close to Fowey (in Cornwall), it offers an array of coastal and riverside walks, as well as a town that's great at that time of year.

To reserve your space, on a first come, first served basis, please contact Philip T on 0117 969 1395.  The cost is £42, which includes the group meal, and is payable by mid-September.  Early booking is advised.

Scotland in September

Duncan (caving) is organising a Scotland self catering cottage(s) week in late September probably around the Lochearnhead area.

There is 1 space remaining - contact Duncan at captaincavebear[@] hotmail.com to express your interest.

Scottish hills

The venue is the area around Lochearnhead about 40 miles north of Glasgow, which is easy to get to by plane or car. The hills are very spectacular and plenty of them.

Duncan has have found two cottages both available for Sept 27th for a week. The first is in Lochearnhead and sleeps 2 doubles and 2 twins and the second cottage is in Stratheyre ( 2 double, 2 single/twin) about 7 miles away. Depending on the number of occupants the accommodation costs are usually between £80 - £100. There is also another cottage available close by but it is rather expensive.

Flying from Bristol to Glasgow is £69 return (inc taxes) at the moment and car hire is about £200 for the week ( to be split between 3/4 passengers). Fuel and food will be extra. The alternative is to drive which would take about 7hrs and only incurs fuel costs. ( my preference is to drive).  There are many supermarkets on the outskirts of Glasgow to do a food shop on the way through ( so you don't have to take it all with you)

Please let me know if you want to come ( I will be asking for £100 per head to cover accommodation and to go towards the initial food costs).
