| Just
occasionally, a change to our walks programme may
be necessary. We will endeavour to update the website,
but the best way to make sure you have the latest
programme is to be on our email list. That way you
get your new and amended programmes without having
to check back here - and it's probably much easier
to print! |

Walking |

You
don't necessarily need to do a lot to be prepared
for a day's walking, but
please read our 'Before
Walking' page so you know what to wear
and what to bring, to make sure you and everyone
else has an enjoyable and safe day. |

Walk
Gradings |
|
To
choose an appropriate walk please read the walk
descriptions along with their gradings - we grade
our walks from 1 boot to 3, as explained below.
Walks with a + sign after the grading indicate
that the terrain or pace of the walk will be slightly
harder or faster than would be expected for the
associated number. A “Bring packed lunch”
in the walk description means that the lunch stop
will be away from shops or pubs and refreshments
will not be available en-route.... |
|
|
|
Less
than 16km/10miles generally on recognizable paths,
between 2 to 5 hours walking at a reasonably gentle
pace. May involve an occasional hill but always
includes time to stop and look around. |
|
|
|
Up
to 22km/14miles and between 4 to 7 hours walking
at a moderate pace. The terrain is likely to include
hills and some rough ground. It will be suitable
for most walkers or anyone of reasonable fitness. |
|
|
|
A
full day of fairly strenuous walking, generally
over 22km/14miles and may involve long steep ascents
and descents, with the possibility of exposed
ridges and the odd scramble (often not on recognized
paths). If you are new to the group please check
with the leader about the difficulty of the walk.

Mynyyd Troed and Waun Fach. 16 miles
An old fashioned 3-booter (the sort that feels a bit tough).
Distance, climbs, ridges, views. For those who've
got it in their legs this will be a rewarding
day, we spend most of the time on fun ridges with
views to both sides and take in some great tops
and a few bumps along the way (when you're there
you'll know what we mean!). Don't make it your first
3-boot walk, unless you know you have it in you
(which means do some other hill walks beforehand
rather than don't come, it will be worth it, it’s
a very rewarding walk!). Bring Packed Lunch.
Depart: 9.00am, Water Tower on the Downs.

Waterfall Walk, Wales.
11 miles.
A variation on the Ystradfelte Waterfall Walk which has been enjoyed many
times before. This time starting at Pontneddfechan
and walking up the Vale of Neath visiting all
of the best waterfalls on a route covering both
valleys. Ruth says "I've been to many far
flung tropical places and seen less impressive
waterfalls than these beautiful falls and they
are just down the road!" Walking boots
are essential and gaiters will be useful as you
should expect to encounter wet, slippery and muddy
ground! Bring PL.

The
walks we’re going to be doing will all be 2+ at

If
you’re not a regular 2+/3 Booter today, that’s
not a problem – but you would need to show that
you’ve been on the Group’s harder walks between

organisers would reserve the right not to take
you on the trip in your own interests.

*Sca Fell (note not ScaFell

Evening Walk |
Sugar
Loaf Sunset for Everyone– 5 miles.
No, we're not kidding! An evening walk up a Welsh mountain, but
completely do-able by anyone in the Group. We're
aiming for the top for sunset, so clearly you'll
need a bit of adventure in you and a torch for
the descent. 2-boot ish, and bring hill walking
kit - boots and things to keep you warm as it
can get a bit nippy stopped on the top. We'll
have you home well before midnight (unless you stop for lots of beers!).
Will be glorious if the weather's with us!
Depart: Water Tower on the Downs
at 6pm prompt (or contact us to arrange to meet
us near Sugar Loaf)
